Robert Gaylor

Robert Gaylor was born on March 2, 1931 in Prague, Oklahoma, and departed this life on October 7, 2024 in Georgetown, Texas. He was the son of the late Clifford Gaylor and Edna Newhouse Gaylor. He was a member of the Methodist Church.

After graduation from Prague High School in 1949, he attended Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington, Missouri. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Oklahoma and his master’s degree from Syracuse University.

During the Korean War, Bob served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Volador SS 490 submarine. After completing his military service, he took a position with IBM. He retired after 40 years with the company as Regional Manager. During his retirement, he was City Manager of Georgetown for several years.

Bob enjoyed doing genealogy research and completed a book for the Prague Historical Museum he called Prague Folks. The book told the family histories of all the folks he knew while growing up in Prague. He also completed an Addendum of Marriage Information on the Prague Folks. Both books are widely used by the museum. Bob was currently updating the research he had done on many Czech families who migrated to Prague from Czechoslovakia during the early years. Some histories took the families back generations to
the 1600s.

Bob was an avid OU football fan and looked forward to watching the games. He and Eliene also enjoyed traveling around the U.S. in their RV.

Bob is predeceased by his parents, and one daughter, Cathy Gaylor. He is survived by his beloved wife Eliene to whom he was married for 73 years. He is also survived by two daughters, Janice Reeves (Duane), Sheri Wyatt (Mark), one son, Steve Gaylor, one sister, Sue Gaylor Holmes and one niece Robyn Bottiger (Jeff). He is survived by five grandsons, three granddaughters, and six great-grandchildren.

A service will be held at Saint William Catholic Church in Round Rock, Texas. A graveside service will be held in Prague at a later date.
