Rodger Hugh Vest

Rodger Hugh Vest, 79, of La Vernia, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and into the waiting arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, June 30, 2024.

Dad was born November 9, 1944, in Portland, Oregon, to Hugh Abraham and Elizabeth MaryAnn Malsom Vest. Dad grew up in Puyallup, Washington graduating from Puyallup High School and attended Greys Harbor College. Dad joined the Air Force in 1963. While stationed at Bergstrom Air Force Base in Austin, Texas, he met the love of his life Cherry Kay Meador. Dad and Mom were married December 21, 1967 at Hyde Park Baptist Church. Their 56-year marriage was blessed with two children, Kevin  Rodger Vest (Audra) and Ashley Elizabeth Petrek (Brad) and six grandchildren, Morgan Kevin Vest, Noah Andrew Corder, Darin Elizabeth Vest, Emily Elizabeth Corder, Peyton Carroll Vest and Brailee Addison Petrek.

After dad’s service in the Air Force he worked at IBM for 25 years and then mom and dad owned Laurie’s Too restaurant and catering in Georgetown, Texas, for 16 years.

Dad was a star athlete and instilled his love of sports and all things outdoors in his children and grandchildren.

Dad accepted Jesus and was baptized with Kevin on September 5, 1976. Dad taught seventh grade boys Sunday School for 10 years.

Left to cherish his memory are our mom, children, grandchildren; sisters Gloria Hammond and Rosemary Wells as well as many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dad is preceded by his parents and brothers James and John Vest.

Visitation Monday, July 8, from 10 to11 a.m. at First Baptist Church La Vernia.

A services will follow at 11 a.m.

Interment to follow at a later date.
