Susan Leslie Fowler Cogdill

Susan “Susy” Leslie Fowler Cogdill of Georgetown, Texas, passed away on June 15, 2023, at the age of 81. She was born on November 23, 1941, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and grew up in Kansas City, Missouri.

She attended Kansas State where she met the love of her life in 1960. Susy and David Bert Cogdill married on February 16, 1961, and were married for 62 years. Over the course of their marriage, they lived in Brunswick, Georgia; Honolulu, Hawaii; Santa Ana, California; Subic Bay, Philippines; Kingsville, Texas; Norfolk, Virginia; Guantanamo Bay, Cuba; Kansas City, Missouri; and Georgetown, Texas.

She loved animals and watching the wildlife in her back yard. Filling the bird feeders, bird baths and hummingbird feeders were top priorities. She kept a log of special birds she saw each day. She supported the Human Society SPCA, had a 9-year-old pen pal from the Philippines and volunteered wherever there was a need. She was a stickler for proper English usage and had a gift for writing clever puns and poems, which she shared with friends and family on birthdays and special occasions. She loved word puzzles and even created her own for family and friends. She had a green thumb for propagating plants and always had a string of vases with plant cuttings on her kitchen counter. She loved meeting people and finding out all about them. She was ever optimistic, friendly, loving and never stopped enjoying life.

She was actively involved in her church. Singing in the choir, delivering welcome packages to new members and organizing the weekly entertainment and crafts for Special Friends at The Worship Place were some of her passions.

She is preceded in death by her parents, James Louis and Helen Fowler.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and Cathy Cogdill; daughter and son-in-law, Betsy and Marcus McMellon; grandchildren, Mireya Cogdill, Bailey McMellon Woodard and her husband Daniel Woodard, Alessandra Cogdill, Kelsey McMellon, Marta McMellon, Sonia Cogdill, David Louis Cogdill, Gregory Behan, MaryKate Behan; and two great granddaughters, Anastasia and Belle Cogdill.

Her husband Bert passed away soon after on June 20, 2023.  They are together again.

Their children would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Ascension Seton, Round Rock, Texas, for the care and compassion they showed them in their final days. They are grateful for the many prayers and kind words from friends and family.
