These photos of the San Gabriel River through Georgetown were taken from the same spot on the shore across from Two Rivers Apartments on July 5 and July 6. On the left, the San Gabriel River is shown as it crests at about noon on July 5, 30 feet above its usual level.

Photos: Rising San Gabriel River closes Austin Avenue bridge

Rain this week has caused the San Gabriel River to rise up to meet the Austin Avenue Bridge. According to the City of Georgetown, the river may rise over 30 feet. These photos were taken at about 10:30 a.m. Saturday, and the bridge was closed by Georgetown Police at 10:53 a.m.

Competitors give it their all at Sheriff’s Posse Rodeo

Time is precious at the rodeo. Time is also money. A matter of milliseconds can be the difference between triumph and going home with your tail between your legs.
Georgetown Cultural Citizen Memorial Association member Paulette Taylor was Mistress of Ceremony for the unveiling of an historical marker (seen at right)  at Citizens Memorial Garden Cemetery during a ceremony held  on Juneteenth, Thursday, June 19, 2025. Located at 251 Memorial Drive, the cemetery opened in 1906, providing final resting places for African-American and Hispanic residents.

Sunflowers welcome summer time, smiles

Happy flowers. Officially, they’re wild sunflowers, but just seeing them adorning the landscape brings joy. While the large ones that people take time to plant are nice, their smaller cousins are growing in abundance as summer nears.
