In 1848, the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo ended the Mexican–American War, Wisconsin became a state, Zachary Taylor was elected president and the Seneca Falls Convention became the first women’s rights convention.
It was also the year Williamson County and Georgetown were created.

Howard Bleeke came home to Walburg on Valentine’s Day. He was buried next to his mother, Hilda Kelm Bleeke, as he had requested, and his father, Wilfred Bleeke. Had he lived, Howard would be celebrating his 83rd birthday today, but he died a year ago last spring.
