In 1848, the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo ended the Mexican–American War, Wisconsin became a state, Zachary Taylor was elected president and the Seneca Falls Convention became the first women’s rights convention. It was also the year Williamson County and Georgetown were created.

Making it big in NYC: Walburg’s Howard Bleeke, professional actor, loved his life

Howard Bleeke came home to Walburg on Valentine’s Day. He was buried next to his mother, Hilda Kelm Bleeke, as he had requested, and his father, Wilfred Bleeke. Had he lived, Howard would be celebrating his 83rd birthday today, but he died a year ago last spring.

Lulu’s Pie Shoppe is bringing pie and more to the Square in Georgetown. “Our menu will grow, but the heart of our business will stay the same, pie,” said Lisa Franke, who goes by Lulu. “I didn’t come from a family that baked, but my mother-inlaw made cookies every year.

Playtime: Tanya Tucker film screening ahead of Two Step Inn

GTX Film will be screening The Return of Tanya Tucker at 6 p.m., April 12, at the historic Palace Theatre. The film won the Audience Choice Award at the South by Southwest Film Festival in 2022 and has received accolades around the country.
