School Notes: Chase the Chief run, Jarrell ISD job fair

Jarrell ISD will hold a Job Fair on February 11, 10 a.m. to noon, at Jarrell High School, 1100 Farm to Market Road 487. The district will be hiring for current positions and for positions at the new Double Creek Elementary School, scheduled to open in fall 2023.

Expert cautions parents about deadly fentanyl, other drugs during Georgetown ISD presentation

Alcohol remains the most-used drug among teenagers, but parents should be aware of the rising rate of other drug use by teens, including the opioid fentanyl. That was the message of public health analyst Jessica Cance, who spoke to Georgetown ISD parents on Monday, January 9.

Georgetown-Sun City Rotary Club serves holly, jolly breakfast with Santa

The Georgetown-Sun City Rotary Club’s Breakfast with Santa made a successful comeback on Saturday, December 17.  More than 850 kids, moms and dads shared a holiday breakfast of pancakes and sausage at the Georgetown Community Center.

Georgetown High School floral design pathway attracting growing number of students

No longer just flowers in a vase, the art of floral design has become a popular class for Georgetown ISD high school students, teacher Amy Beran said. She should know. She’s been the program instructor for 25 years. “This is a career pathway that’s attracting more students every year,” she said.

Rotary Club of Georgetown dedicates first GISD Peace Garden at Cooper Elementary

Let there be peace on earth and let it begin at Cooper Elementary School. Students, staff and community members gathered on Wednesday, December 14, to dedicate Georgetown ISD’s first Peace Garden, a project sponsored by the Rotary Club of Georgetown.

Georgetown ISD names new HR director

Georgetown ISD has named Amanda Johnson as its new director for human resources. Ms. Johnson has 21 years of public education experience, most recently as the director of support staff and employee relations in Round Rock ISD. She has also been a classroom teacher and campus administrator.

High interest rates slow Georgetown ISD enrollment growth, area home sales

Home interest rates have doubled from spring to fall, slowing both new home sales and projected district enrollment growth, according to Georgetown ISD’s most recent demographer’s report.
