After trial and error, city council approves Shell Road development

After three years of planning and proposals submitted to city council and Planning & Zoning, developer NOVA 368 earned Georgetown City Council approval on April 14 for a 43.13 acre development located at 2200 Shell Road and Shell Spur near Grace Bible Church.

GISD names new middle school to honor segregation-era African American educator

Georgetown ISD’s new middle school will be named S.C. Marshall Middle, after the founder and principal of the Georgetown Colored High School in 1913. GISD’s new Marshall Middle School, located on Patriot Way, is under construction and will open in 2027. Trustees approved the name April 20.

Two Step Inn sees delays, refunds for rainout

Rainclouds threatened the Two Step Inn festival all day Saturday, April 18, and when the steadily darkening clouds finally released water around 5:30 p.m., it was a deluge. Lightning and heavy rain sparked a weather delay, cancellation of several acts and eventually a weather evacuation.

Georgetown amends engineering contract for Austin Avenue, bridge work

Rehabilitation work has yet to resume on the Austin Avenue bridges, but Georgetown City Council amended a task order with engineering firm Aguirre & Fields LP in the amount of $485,593 during the April 14 council meeting.

Georgetown Library exhibit shares truths of the Holocaust

When the Nazis came to the small village of Roth, Germany, in 1933, Deborah Roth-Howe’s father was a child. His Jewish family was only one of five in Roth, and its members were the only Holocaust survivors among the village’s small Jewish community.

Williamson County gives tax incentives to Taiwanese AI company

The Williamson County Commissioners Court approved a Chapter 312 tax abatement incentive agreement for Compal USA Technology Inc. on Tuesday, April 14.

Georgetown's water territory sale on May ballot due to ‘exponential growth’

Georgetown’s Water Utility serves about 74,000 water customers, 27,000 of whom live within an area that was once the Chisholm Trail Special Utility District located north of Georgetown and into Bell County.

Georgetown residents get free bus ride to downtown Austin

A regional commuter bus route for the Georgetown/ Round Rock area into Austin launched a month ago as part of an expansion from the Capital Area Rural Transportation System. This route gives riders access to downtown Austin, and is free for a limited time to encourage use.
