Georgetown library establishes book locker at Carver Center

Georgetown Public Library held a ribbon cutting for its first book locker on February 24, giving readers a way to pick up and return library books at the Carver Center for Families.

Georgetown transportation projects see price increases

Austin Avenue bridge rehab This is the rehabilitation of the Austin Avenue bridge that includes new safety rated rails, required maintenance and a new bridge deck. The original estimated completion date was April 15, 2026, but has been pushed back to August.

Georgetown Mayor Josh Schroeder unveils road map for third term

Since 2020, Taylor-born Josh Schroeder has served as Georgetown’s mayor – leading the city through the Covid-19 pandemic, a population boom and efforts to modernize the city’s infrastructure in and around downtown.

Austin Avenue bridges construction stalled

Dear Sun Staff: What’s the latest with the construction on the Austin Avenue vehicle bridge? I noticed the construction work has stopped. Answer: According to the city’s communication manager Keith Hutchinson, there was an overpour of concrete on the bridges.

Georgetown Police Department sees more calls for service

Despite the total calls for service from the Georgetown Police Department going up 4.25 percent in 2025, the total number of Group A offenses — which include murder, rape, assault, robbery, theft, fraud and drug charges – were down 7.

May race set for Georgetown City Council

Georgetown Mayor Josh Schroeder will serve a third term leading the city after Friday’s candidate filing deadline passed without drawing any interest from possible challengers. “My third term officially started at 5 p.m. today,” Mayor Schroeder said online Friday afternoon.

Quarry site north of Sun City could be converted to 1,894-home development

A new in-city Municipal Utility District in north Georgetown off Ronald Reagan and Rattlesnake Road could bring a maximum of 1,894 single-family homes, duplexes and townhomes to about 730 acres, which are currently being used as a quarry.
