Recent racist displays spark Southwestern University student protest

Over 250 Southwestern University students gathered Wednesday, February 22, to protest the university’s response — or what some consider a lack thereof — to three recent and public displays of racism on campus.
First Presbyterian Church of Georgetown pastor Bobby Hulme-Lippert wears a purple stole, which he will wear during services held throughout the Lenten season. Lent, which is commemorated by many Christian denominations, begins this year with Ash Wednesday on February 22 and continues until Easter, April 9.

Georgetown residents will vote in a mayoral election this May. Two candidates, incumbent Josh Schroeder and resident Jonathan Dade, will appear on the ballot. The city announced the news following the deadline to file, which was at 5 p.m. Friday, February 17.

After its Georgetown debut last year, the Troubadour Festival will not make its way back to the city this year.  A combination barbecue and music festival, the Troubadour Festival had its inaugural event in Celina in 2021.
