Robert Gilbert Livingston Chapter donates books

Members of the Robert Gilbert Livingston Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, donated 145 English and Spanish elementary-level history books for their Community Classroom Project. The books were delivered to Florence Elementary School on Thursday, January 19.

Georgetown bulky-waste pickup changes dates

Bulky pickup days are changing for Georgetown residents. Pickup services will coincide with each customer’s regular trash day beginning Monday, February 6.  Services were previously provided on Saturdays. Waste pickup days vary depending on each residential and commercial address.

Best of Georgetown winners include The Caring Place, BiG and Blue Corn Harvest

The votes are in for the 2022 Best of Georgetown contest.   Hosted annually by the Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Best of Georgetown contest recognizes outstanding Georgetown businesses, restaurants and shops.  There are 44 categories, including best attractions, services and activities.

Keynote discusses ideologies of MLK, Malcolm X as part of Southwestern University Dream Week

Contrasting ideologies held by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X, as well as their shared commitment to bringing about civil rights for the Black community, were the topics of discussion during a keynote address at Southwestern University.

Georgetown resident inducted in Tejano R.O.O.T.S Hall of Fame for music career

For roughly 20 years, Georgetown resident Johnny Joe Leal toured the United States as a guitarist, playing for musicians including Freda Payne and Al Green at the beginning of their careers, as well as Tejano bands such as The Royal Six and Ash Wednesday.

Georgetown celebrates MLK Jr. Day with parade, program

Georgetown resident Sharon Maynard was one of dozens of people who gathered outside the Williamson County Courthouse for the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day parade Monday, January 16. “I’ve never marched before, but I wanted to come out to try to make a difference,” Ms. Maynard said.

Georgetown City Council reviews parking garage designs
