Jarrell ISD could set stage for May bond election

Jarrell ISD trustees are considering placing a $324.6 million bond package on the May 6 ballot, and they’ve set a meeting to hear community input.  The meeting will be held at 6 p.m., February 8, at the JISD Admin Annex, 508 North Fifth Street.

Jarrell ISD studying four-day school week

As a strategy to improve teacher retention, Jarrell ISD is studying reducing the school week from five days to four.  JISD Communications Director Nick Spinetto said the four-day week concept in JISD is “exploratory” at this time and is being looked at as a way to keep teachers.

Longtime Jarrell ISD residents disappointed over 1916 Building demo

Jarrell residents had seen a bright future for JISD’s 1916 Building when voters approved a bond in May 2021.  The bond included $4.9 million to upgrade the original school building into district and community office space, giving new life to the much-loved old structure.

Jarrell ISD’s historic 1916 Building torn down

Jarrell ISD’s 1916 Building, which was slated for upcoming remodeling, has been disassembled after engineers said it was not structurally sound enough to renovate as previously planned. The district will now build an identical building in its place, JISD Communications Director Nick Spinetto said.

Five candidates up for two Jarrell ISD board seats

Five candidates are vying for two places on the Jarrell ISD Board of Trustees in the November 11 election. Places 5 and 7 are on the ballot. Candidates for Place 5 are incumbent Tamara Dozier and Humberto Carbajal. In Place 7, candidates are incumbent Rebecca Kirby, Ginger Martinez and Sherry K.

Tornado causes property damage, overturned trailers near Jarrell

A tornado touched down in the north part of the county Monday evening as a cold front passed through the region, bringing high winds, rain and lightning. As of Tuesday morning, no loss of life had been reported, but damage was recorded in Jarrell.
