Southwestern unveils early plan for vacant 560 acres

A mixed-use development — with offices, retail, apartments, music venue, hotel/conference and open green space — could be built on part of the 560 vacant acres of Southwestern University's campus. Southwestern’s “560 Plan” outlines ideas and initial plans for the university’s undeveloped space.

Largest building project in Southwestern University’s history underway

Southwestern University, Texas’ first liberal arts institution of higher education, is well underway with its largest-ever building project. The comprehensive campaign — Thrive: The Campaign for Southwestern University — is adding  $150 million in new and renovated buildings.

Southwestern adds VP to equity team

David A. Ortiz, Ph.D. will serve as Southwestern University’s first vice president for equity, accountability and inclusive excellence. A newly-created role on campus, Mr.

A crowd of about 200 people show up to watch the transformation to a total solar eclipse a little after 1:30 p.m.  Expected rain held off until a little after 4:30 p.m.

Southwestern ponders future development of 560 acres

Southwestern University is soliciting community input on how to develop 560 vacant acres lying east and northeast of its campus. “We are in a visionary phase right now,” Chief Marketing Officer Dinah Ritchie told a group composed of Georgetown’s nonprofit sector representatives on March 22.

While most Southwestern University students will be planning a return to campus in early January, a lucky dozen will be on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure in Tanzania to climb Mount Kilimanjaro — the highest mountain in Africa and the largest free-standing mountain in the world.

Southwestern’s Distinctive Collections and Archives showcases historical documents, records, rare books, manuscripts and other items. There are over 200,000 rare books and over 1,500 feet of linear archival material at the archive.  The newest exhibit, which is displayed at the front of The A.
