Poet Kevin Young gives lecture at Southwestern University

“What interests me is how poetry can provide a witness to history,” Kevin Young said before his Roy and Margaret Shilling Lecture at Southwestern University Friday, October 13. Mr. Young is the poetry editor at The New Yorker and spoke to students, faculty, alumni and other community members.

Three stop signs on the Southwestern University campus were given a locally-inspired makeover thanks to the efforts of graduating senior Ashton Frey.

Georgetown Trails Foundation partners with Southwestern for local trail system

A master plan to build 43 miles of biking and hiking trails got a boost this spring when the Georgetown Trails Foundation and Southwestern University partnered up to add eight miles to the foundation’s trail system.

Southwestern breaks ground on major campus renovations

Southwestern University officials and students broke ground Friday, April 14, on the single largest building project in the school’s history. Christopher Cragg, chair of Southwestern’s board of trustees, spoke before a group wielded ceremonial shovels outside of Mood-Bridwell Hall.

George Brightwell, a retired Southwestern administrator and longtime Georgetown philanthropist who, with his wife Barbara, supported initiatives and organizations designed to improve life for Williamson County residents, especially children, died early Tuesday, April 11.
