Overpass struck, causing road closures

On Tuesday, September 2, at around 2:30 p.m., an oversized load from an 18-wheeler traveling on Interstate 35 struck the Highway 29 overpass near Wolf Ranch.

Excavation work continues on the huge tusk, which will be left where it was found since it is so fragile. Not quite half of the tusk has been uncovered yet. The Texas Department of Transportation created a 3D model of Inner Space Cavern last winter to establish its exact coordinates and protect it from future transportation projects along the Interstate 35 corridor.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is reminding residents to remain safe on Halloween whether attending an event, trick-or-treating or traveling the roads. “We know many Texans, young and old, will be out celebrating Halloween this year,” DPS Director Steven McCraw said.

Ronald Reagan Boulevard bridge opens

The newly constructed Ronald Reagan Boulevard bridge, which goes over Ranch to Market Road 2338 in Georgetown northwest of Sun City, opened to the public Tuesday, December 6.
The Texas Department of Transportation announced the opening in a press release last week.
