High school STAAR scores improve for Georgetown, Jarrell ISDs

The Texas Education Agency released 2026 high school STAAR test results June 10, and both Georgetown and Jarrell ISDs are riding high.In the tests’ “Meets Standard and Above” performance category, GISD improved in every test. JISD also improved in all but one, English II.

Jarrell ISD cuts ribbon on new school

With a snip of the scissors, kids, parents and educators celebrated the opening of Jarrell ISD’s new Berry Creek Elementary School Monday, June 8. Members of the new school community flowed inside after the ribbon cutting with “oohs” and “aahs” over the new campus in Berry Creek Highlands.

The Jarrell community turned out Wednesday, August 21, to cut the blue ribbon and officially open JISD’s new 1916 Building. Two years ago, old bricks — rubble from the original 1916 Building deemed unsalvageable due to age and condition — were piled on the site.

Rising Georgetown High School senior Kamrin Gordon and 2024 GHS graduates Elizabeth McCallum and Brayden Boff earned the Outstanding Performer Award at the 2024 Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest for solos in Voice, Harp and Timpani, respectively.The competition was held May 25 and 27.

Jarrell Community Library set for summer programming

The Jarrell Community Library will have its summer reading program from June 11 to July 26. This year’s theme is “Adventures of the Library” where participants will have adventures with reading challenges, crafts, STEM and group activities.
