Waste Management — which runs the county’s landfill — will increase typing fees by 6 percent, or $3, effective August 1. According to county documents, the previous price of $49.90 per ton will increase to $52.90 per ton.

To fight the growing number of financial scams reported in Georgetown, GPD Detective Charles Dale said the best defense is to recognize when someone is trying to con you out of money. Mr. Dale said reports of scams have increased as Georgetown grows and that several are reported to him a week.
