Women Helping Others: Furbaby Food Pantry helps provide for pets
Furbaby Food Pantry is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping families in need of assistance with their pet. It was established in 2021 by founder Kori Bindl, who shared information about the group’s mission with Women Helping Others this month.
As a community-based group, Furbaby’s mission is to help keep pets with their families and out of shelters during hardships. This is made possible by accepting and providing pet supplies of all kinds for those in need.
At the Furbaby Food Pantry, the public is welcome to access essential pet supplies, including bowls, blankets, collars, leashes, harnesses, pee pads, treats, litter bags and more. All are offered free of charge to those who need them.
Food pickup requires a simple request form. There are no limitations on who the organization serves.
Furbaby Food Pantry began as a modest initiative with a single open bag of food donated by a local shelter and distributed from a front porch. Since then, they have grown into a fully operational non-profit organization serving a seven-city area. The group now assists more than 300 individuals each month, supporting over 1,100 pets.
The generosity of community members and local pet stores — through donations and volunteering — enables the nonprofit to continue on.
At one point, Georgetown’s Tail Waggins Dog Bakery helped give Furbaby a temporary space behind their store. Eventually, Furbaby discovered the perfect rental location at 1603 Northwest Boulevard, Georgetown, where the pantry serves the community today.
Fundraiser final days
The Woman Helping Others/Meals-on-Wheels Fundraiser is coming to a close on October 7 at Mulligan’s.
Nelson Johnson, Mulligan’s owner and a Meals-on-Wheels supporter, has provided the entire restaurant for this final celebration. Everyone is invited. Food is available for purchase. If you purchase a meal, you will receive a complimentary peach cobbler dessert. Guests who donate $50 or more will receive a $10 gift coupon for Mulligan’s.
To date, donations are around $41,000. Some donations are needed to achieve our goal of $50,000. Remember, donations are a match thanks to the St. David’s Foundation.
All money raised benefits the Meals on Wheels Madella Hilliard Neighborhood Center, located at 803 West Eighth Street in Georgetown. This center provides hot, nutritious noontime meals to home-bound seniors Monday through Friday and offers in-person meals for those seniors able to come to the center. Approximately 500 seniors are served from Sun City and Georgetown.
