Police urge caution in school zones

The first day of classes for schools in Georgetown ISD is Thursday, August 15, and the Georgetown Police Department reminds drivers to slow down in school zones. As students go back to school, police will be monitoring school zones throughout the city.

Largest building project in Southwestern University’s history underway

Southwestern University, Texas’ first liberal arts institution of higher education, is well underway with its largest-ever building project. The comprehensive campaign — Thrive: The Campaign for Southwestern University — is adding  $150 million in new and renovated buildings.

Kelley Proust displays leaf art at the library

vacation scenes. Her exhibit title is “Fallen” and will be on display from August 13 to September 26. The reception in her honor is 4-6 p.m., August 16 in the Cafe Gallery. “The ‘Waterfall’ leaf captures a good rain storm on the Running Brushy Hiking Trail,” she said.

New elementary, middle schools welcome GISD students next week

Georgetown ISD is opening two new campuses this month in the district’s far west side. San Gabriel Elementary is located in the Santa Rita Ranch development off Ronald Reagan Boulevard.

GISD teachers kick off new school year with cheers, reflection during convocation

The atmosphere of Georgetown ISD’s annual staff convocation on August 6 was like a family reunion — folks catching up, new relatives to meet, and laughter and hugs aplenty. The start of the new-school-year gathering kicked off with wry jokes about the electrical blackout at last year’s convocation.

Prima Dora moves to the front of Barrels and Amps

Prima Dora gift store is moving into the former live music room in Barrels and Amps on the corner of Eighth Street and Austin Avenue. Prima Dora sells games and gifts geared toward adults — such as cocktail wear, adult card games and candles. The new location will open August 9 at 5 p.m.

Williamson County budget could go up 8.7 percent for FY 2025

Williamson County’s preliminary budget for the 2025 fiscal year shows an estimated $609 million in total expenditures. The budget was presented to county commissioners by Budget Officer Ashlie Holladay during a preliminary budget discussion on Tuesday, August 6.
