Although the park remains closed, curious Georgetown residents visited San Gabriel Park Sunday to check out damage left behind by the raging river of the day before. They sloshed through mud several inches deep stretching from the riverbank to the road.

Rain this week has caused the San Gabriel River to rise up to meet the Austin Avenue Bridge. According to the City of Georgetown, the river may rise over 30 feet. These photos were taken at about 10:30 a.m. Saturday, and the bridge was closed by Georgetown Police at 10:53 a.m.

Developers could pay more for water, wastewater

Georgetown may increase its water and wastewater impact fees for developers to help offset the cost of maintaining services amid economic shifts and continued population growth. Currently, the maximum water impact fee is $12,215, and the wastewater fee is $6,129.

Animal shelter merger starts mid-July

The Georgetown Animal Shelter and the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter will officially merge on July 14. On that date, the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter campus at 1855 Inner Loop will serve as the central location for main shelter services.

2% electric rate increases on the way

Georgetown electric rates could raise approximately 2 percent for all rate classes for the first time since 2019 to help the electric utility maintain sufficient revenue and protect the utility if projected large-load growth onto the city’s electric grid doesn’t materialize.
