GISD trustees get update on 2024 bond projects

Georgetown ISD trustees were updated on the district’s voter-approved 2024 bond program — an initiative informally tagged, “More space for ever-growing enrollment.” Lannon Heflin, GISD’s Chief of Strategic Operations presented a project report to trustees December 2 board.

Winter programs for all at the Georgetown Public Library

The Georgetown Public Library is wrapping up 2024 with programs for all ages. Younger library patrons are encouraged to stop by the Kid’s Desk in December to pick up a paper mitten. Families are invited to cut out, decorate and return their mittens to the library.

Georgetown sprouts a new supermarket

Sprouts Farmers Market held their Georgetown grand opening November 22-24. Shoppers got 20 percent off their purchases and the first 100 customers on Friday and Saturday received a reusable tote filled with freebies.  Sprouts began as a fruit stand in San Diego, California, in 1943.

Georgetown serves up community on Thanksgiving

Georgetown's Community Thanksgiving was held Thursday, November 28, 2024, at the San Gabriel Community Center in San Gabriel Park.  About 200 pounds of turkey breast, combined with numerous side dishes, drinks and desserts were provided at no charge to anyone who wanted a Thanksgiving meal.

Santa trades in cookies for pancakes

Santa will come to town and eat breakfast in his favorite city December 21. The annual Breakfast with Santa event will take place at the Community Center in San Gabriel Park from 7:30 to 11 a.m.

Georgetown looks to state funding for future road projects

Georgetown is looking at state grant opportunities to fund road improvement in 2025 and beyond. Georgetown received a grant this year from the Texas Department of Transportation’s Highway Safety Improvement Program for improvements to the intersection of County Road 245 and Ronald Reagan.

Businesses serve up Thanksgiving cheer on the Square

Businesses from all around the Square worked with The Caring Place and Helping Hands of Georgetown November 19 to serve traditional Thanksgiving fare at the Georgetown Public Library to 200 members of the community.

City grant program faces shaky future

The majority of Georgetown’s city council is in favor of redirecting money typically designated for nonprofit support toward more essential city services in future budgets.
