Hutto home to future Chuy’s restaurant

Popular Tex-Mex chain Chuy’s is coming to Hutto. According to a post on the city’s Facebook page, the restaurant will be off US 79 and Alliance Boulevard as part of the Townwest Commons Phase II development. The restaurant is set to be over 5,000 square feet with additional patio seating.

Weir Fire Department welcomes new fire chief

Williamson County Emergency Services District 6 Fire/Rescue named Mark McAdams as its new fire chief. Mr. McAdams brings 38 years of experience in the fire service to his new role. He served as chief of ESD 5 and 22 years with the Austin Fire Department as captain.

The Wesleyan to discontinue home and community services

The Wesleyan will close its home and community-based services, which includes home health, hospice and personal assistive services.  These health care services will stop being offered on Saturday, September 30, according to Frank Woods, chief financial officer for The Wesleyan. Mr.

A deep dive into Georgetown’s FY2024 budget

The City of Georgetown enters a new fiscal year Sunday, October 1, with a budget of $868 million, funded by a tax rate of 37.40 cents per $100 valuation. While the tax rate holds steady from last year’s tax rate, this year’s budget is $148 million more than last year’s, which was $722 million.

Georgetown council approves historic home tax exemption

Historic homes primarily in the Old Town and downtown areas doing certain outdoor repairs of $10,000 or more will receive a tax exemption starting at 25 percent. The program was approved on its first reading during the regular meeting of Georgetown City Council at its September 12 meeting.

Georgetown, Habitat for Humanity to repair homes of residents

Georgetown could receive funding from the county to support the repairs of 20 homes of Georgetown residents.  Previously, the county awarded the city $150,000 through the Community Development Block Grant for 2022 to go toward the city’s Home Repair Program.

Williamson County unemployment stays at 3.9 percent

The Texas Workforce Commission released updated unemployment numbers for Central Texas counties for August 2023.  Williamson County’s unemployment rate stayed low: 3.9 percent.  Currently, 634,898 people are employed in the Rural Capitol Area.

At the annual Florence Chamber of Commerce “Boomtown” Gala, two awards were given to three members of the community Saturday night at Reunion Ranch.   Lesa Ragsdale was honored as Citizen of the Year. She was a  school bus driver for Florence ISD in the 1990s. Retiring in 2020, Ms.
