GISD trustees officially hire new superintendent

In a special meeting on August 7, Georgetown ISD trustees unanimously hired Devin Padavil as the district’s next superintendent.  Following the board vote, Mr. Padavil thanked the board and acknowledged the “high hopes” trustees have for his leadership.

Wilco bolsters efforts against wildfires

The Williamson County Fire Chief’s Association has adopted the Williamson County Wildfire Task Force Regional Procedure as a way to streamline requests for additional resources during active wildfires in the county.

Georgetown’s Baylor Scott & White expands coverage

Sun City’s Baylor Scott & White clinic at 4945 Williams Drive has expanded in order to provide more services to its patients. The clinic added 15,000 square feet of space, updated their facility and added new specialties and providers.

Round Rock approves construction projects

Round Rock City Council Members approved multiple construction projects related to parks during its July 27 meeting. Lake Creek Trail construction will begin later this year.

Two mosquitoes test positive for West Nile in Cedar Park

In an update from the Williamson County Cities Health District Integrated Vector Management program, two mosquitoes test positive for West Nile Virus in Cedar Park earlier this week.

Wilco discusses dispatch rates for non-county calls

Williamson County Commissioners Court supported the creation of a Jarrell ISD Police Department during its Tuesday, August 1, meeting. According to a signed agreement, the county will provide the school district with dispatch services and access to public safety software systems.

Georgetown to use virtual reality for lifeguard training

Georgetown is one of two cities in the United States selected to participate in a beta test for a new Lifeguard Virtual Reality Training App. The Parks and Recreation Department is working with the American Red Cross to implement the technology which is expected to be released later this year.

New nature preserve set to open in Jarrell this fall

Hill Country Conservancy is opening a nature preserve in northern Williamson County after an anonymous landowner donated 1,205 acres to the nonprofit. Named the Pecan Springs Karst Preserve, the property is five miles west of Jarrell.
