A procession honoring First Lt. Charles Woodruff McCook took place in downtown Georgetown on Saturday, August 2, 2025. McCook, a Georgetown native, died on August 3, 1943,  during World War II when the B-25 he was piloting was struck in a mission over  Burma.

Republican Rupal Chaudhari has announced her candidacy for Williamson County commissioner in Precinct 2. Republican Cynthia Long, who has served since 2007, currently holds the seat.“Service to others is not something I have ever embarked on lightly,” Ms. Chaudhari said.

Democrat Caitlin Rourk, a Round Rock resident working in Global Marketing at Dell Technologies, officially launched her campaign for Texas’s 31st Congressional District, July 29.“I’ve had enough of these out-of-touch politicians,” she said in her campaign launch video. “So I’ve made the choice.

Texas House begins congressional redistricting

Every 10 years, congressional districts in Texas are redrawn to accommodate for population change based on the U.S. Census results.

Elected Williamson County officials get 2% pay raise in Fiscal Year 26

Williamson County Commissioners Court approved a 2 percent salary increase for elected officials for the 2026 Fiscal Year budget. The salaries include all elected officials except the District Judges and the District Attorney.

Assistance League of Georgetown Area partners with ABC Home and Commercial Services

The Assistance League of Georgetown Area has launched a volunteer partnership with ABC Home and Commercial Services.The initiative began July 15 with a Community Partner Day event at the league’s thrift shop and outreach facilities.

Council members, developer debate building impact fees

A proposed project that would straddle Georgetown and the City of Weir’s extraterritorial jurisdictions could bring 340 acres of single-family housing, a school site and an amenity center with some commercial aspects to the area. The proposed development is tentatively called the Pinnacle MUD.

Suspected Bartlett arsonist arrested

The Williamson County Fire Marshal’s Office arrested Carlos Crathers, of Temple, as a suspect in connection with one of four recent structure fires in Bartlett.Fire Marshal Mike Lugo told the Sun that no details on the motive or other suspects have been confirmed.

Democrat enters Texas’ 31st Congressional District race

Democrat Justin Early — a Georgetown resident who is a cybersecurity architect at Dell Technologies — has announced his candidacy in the race for Texas’ 31st congressional district. He is joined by candidate Caitlin McClay Rourk on the Democratic primary ballot.
