Richarte High School Class of 2025 celebrates

Richarte High School was the first of Georgetown ISD’s three high schools to celebrate the class of 2025 with graduation ceremonies this week.The remaining graduation schedule is as follows: East View High School  Friday, May 23, 20258 p.m.

Georgetown city staff reviews long-term funds to avoid deficit

Based on a multi-year forecast for Georgetown’s General Fund, Georgetown City Manager David Morgan said city expenses will exceed revenues over the next three fiscal years without “due diligence.” The General Fund is the city’s primary operating fund.

County bakes, lakes ache

Despite the recent rain relief this month, the Brazos River Authority and Williamson County are bracing for a hot, dry summer. The Farmer’s Almanac predicted this year to be a “scorcher of a summer” with Texas having a “Hot and Dry” outlook and temperature increasing, “4 degrees above normal.

Williamson County sees population boom

Georgetown has also surpassed the 100,000 population threshold, with an estimated 101,344 based on the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2024 estimates, published Thursday, May 15.  Georgetown saw 4.76 percent growth from 2023 to 2024, when data was gathered, and has grown by 47.49 percent since 2020.
Georgetown is considering two options for trail segments leading from Berry Springs Park and Preserve to the future Westside Park. Proposal 1 shows the trail going around the neighborhood. The first phase of building would include the blue and green sections of the trail. Proposal 2 shows the trail running along the creek and through the Berry Creek neighborhood.

Berry Creek area to get new shared-use trail

A new path from the future Westside Park to Berry Springs Park will help connect regional trail systems in the coming years.

Vandalism strikes confederate monument twice in one week

The Confederate Soldiers and Sailors Monument outside the Williamson County Courthouse was vandalized twice last week, on the nights of May 12 and May 14. In the first instance, the statue was sprayed with green spray paint with words that appeared to say “this is a symbol” across the front.

Frozen Flamingo goes viral, serves smiles

Faith Thomas, the owner of Frozen Flamingo, has become a celebrity on TikTok for her crazy custard creations made in Georgetown. Her top video — “Make a strawberry concrete order with me” — has drawn 12 million views.
