Celebrating the pecan with two Williamson County food shows
Pecan lovers can rejoice this month with two opportunities to enjoy and show off their crops.
All county residents with a pecan tree are welcome to participate in the 2022 Williamson-Bell County Pecan Show on December 13 and the Williamson County Pecan Food Show on December 15.
Williamson-Bell County Pecan Show
The Williamson-Bell County Pecan Show is both an opportunity to compete for bragging rights and learn about regional pecan growing. It will be held at the Williamson County Extension Office located at 100 Wilco Way, AG 201 in Georgetown on December 13.
Pecans entered must be from a 2022 crop and should be brought to the extension office no later than noon on December 12. Exhibitors are limited to one entry for each named variety and must grow their pecans within the county limits. Entries must consists of at least 40 pecans, which will be cracked, weighed and judged. Nuts will be disqualified if they have been cut, sanded, polished or altered.
Processing will start at 9 a.m. on December 13, and judging begins at 10 a.m. Questions can be directed to County Extension Agent Kate Whitney at 512-943-3300.
Williamson County Pecan Food Show
The fun continues with the Williamson County Pecan Food Show December 15. Residents are welcome to show off their favorite pecan-based recipes to the judges for bragging rights and assorted awards. There is a junior division for youth in kindergarten up to 12th grade, and an adult age division for participants over the age of 18. Cost to enter is $5.
One item per class may be entered in the following categories: Pecan pie, Pecan bread, Pecan candy (12 pieces required), Pecan cookies (12 cookies required), Pecan bars, Pecan cakes and Pecan fancy nuts.
Entries must be dropped off at the Williamson County Extension Office on Thursday, December 15 between 8:15 a.m. and noon. Judging begins at 12 p.m.
