Mary Patricia (O’Sullivan) Walters

Mary Patricia (O’Sullivan) Walters, age 90, passed away peacefully on the morning of Friday, November 11, 2022, with her loving sons, Adam, and Jason at her side.  Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.

Mary was born in Brentwood, Essex, England, on February 1, 1932, to Jeremiah O’Sullivan and Selena (Hickman) O’Sullivan, the seventh of 10 children.  Mary attended 10 years of Catholic school before joining the Territorial Army (TA) for two years where she learned how to drive the eight-ton troop transport trucks. Mary married Derek Walters in May 1962, and in November 1962, they sailed on the Queen Mary to New York, U.S. in search of better opportunities. They stayed with Derek’s cousins in Oneida and Sherrill New York for a couple months until they both found jobs, an apartment, and a vehicle. Mary and Derek moved to Rochester and Macedon New York in 1966. They had son, Adam in 1966 and son, Jason in 1967. In 1978, the family moved to Georgetown. To pay for family vacations to England and college tuition for her sons, in 1980, she took on two jobs. One at the Methodist Church Learning Tree caring for the infants for 10 years and the second as a school bus driver for Georgetown ISD where Mary worked for 27 years, the last several years driving the Special Needs bus, before retiring at age 75.

Mary’s pride and joy were her sons and their families. She spent most of the next 15 years after retirement working in her yard, reading, sharing a pizza with friends and sometimes quietly playing a game of solitaire. She would also regularly attend one of Sarah or Ethan’s sporting events after school or on a Saturday. Mary did her best to never miss out on a good steak and margarita when Jason would grill out. She of course stayed in regular weekly contact with her family back home in England. You could usually find Mary regularly in attendance at Saturday evening Mass at St. Helen’s Catholic Church.

Mary is preceded in death by her father and mother, brothers, John, Pat, Jim, and sisters Eileen, Ivy, Jo, and Lena.  Mary is survived by her sister, Jean and brother, Michael, son, Adam (wife Kiki) of Houston, son, Jason (wife Lori) of Georgetown, grandchildren, Sarah and Ethan and several nieces and nephews in England.

The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Helen Catholic Church in Georgetown on December 19, 2022, at 1.30 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice.
