Glenda Ann (Durham) Crandall

Glenda Ann (Durham) Crandall passed away on March 28, 2023, in Cedar Park, Texas.

Glenda was born May 30,1935, in Antelope Flat, Briscoe County, Texas. She was the oldest of five children and helped her family by caring for her siblings and the farm. Glenda loved the farm, especially riding her horse, Cocomo. She enjoyed school and graduated from North Dallas High School where she was voted band sweetheart and played the saxophone. After graduation, Glenda married Robert (Bob) R. Crandall. She met Bob at the bank where she worked and knew he was the one for her right away. They were married for 64 years. Bob was the love of her life, sending her roses every anniversary and birthday.

Shortly after her son and first daughter were born, Glenda and Bob moved to Loveland, Colorado, to manage an auto parts store with her sister-in-law. After selling the store a couple years later, the family returned to Dallas where Glenda worked at a bank as secretary to the bank president. Glenda supported her husband’s career moving 18 times and living in 6 states during their marriage, often picking up part time jobs along the way. Her focus was primarily for the family, ensuring everyone was cared for. Glenda was excited to see the country and viewed each move as an opportunity. Glenda earned an associates degree from Fullerton College while working as a sales representative for Dorsey Labs. She also enrolled at Cal State-Fullerton where she was a few credits shy of a bachelor’s degree. Glenda was proud of returning to school later in life, excelling in all of her classes, especially geology. In fact, if she could do it over again, she would have majored in geology.

In 1996, her husband retired and they moved to Georgetown, Texas, where she enjoyed playing golf, bridge, mahjong and traveling. Glenda volunteered at Georgetown Hospital and worked in the gift shop. She was president of the Georgetown Hospital Auxiliary from 2002-2003.

Glenda, known as Nani to her grandchildren, was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She loved us all deeply, as we love her. Glenda was a fierce advocate and supporter of her family, as well as an incredible cook. Glenda was sweet, spunky and never hesitated to stand up for others. An avid reader, she was a frequent visitor to the public library, passing along her love of books to the family. She was kind and a friend to everyone. Glenda had the most amazing smile and ocean blue eyes. It’s hard to imagine her not here, but her goodness, caring and wisdom will live on in her children and grandchildren. Our sweet mom will be sorely missed.

Glenda leaves behind daughters Karen Crandall of Georgetown, Texas, and Julia (Mark) Lawrence of Crozet, Virginia; grandchildren: Mathew Crandall of Georgetown, Texas, Emily (Tom) Corbitt of Suffolk, Virginia, who is expecting Glenda’s first great-granddaughter in May, and Abigail Lawrence of Richmond, Virginia; half- sister-in-law, Shelia Hart Flick of Hiram, Georgia; sister, Anita Joann Durham Tate of Georgetown, Texas; nieces: Stefanie (Steve) Janicek of Grapevine, Texas, Elizabeth (Serhat) Guvan of San Antonio, Texas, and Shannon Tankersley of Dallas, Texas; nephew Charles Wolford and partner Chris Keller of San Francisco, California.

Glenda is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Crandall; son, Mark Crandall; parents, Agnes Allene Thomas and Jefferson Clark Durham; sisters, Alleta June Durham Tankersley and Dixie Mae Durham Wolford Edwards; brother, Wayne Clark Durham.

The family would like to thank the Poet’s Walk Memory Care and hospice team for all their help in her final days. Special thanks to her daughter, Karen, who lovingly cared for Glenda in her last years.

Glenda has chosen cremation and a service for immediate family will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Diabetes Association.
