Dr. Marvin Kendall Young, 99 years old, passed away on Sunday, April 16, in Georgetown, Texas. Kendall was preceded in death by his daughter, Ruth Young. He is survived by his wife, Frances Young, daughter Kathy Butler (Don), son Kendall Young (Carol), grandchildren Karen Young (Gabriel Bennett), Julie Fletcher (Mitchell), Claire Young, and Gregory Young, and great-grandchildren Alex Fletcher and Adaline Fletcher, as well as many close friends and loved ones.

Born in Tulia, Texas, on March 28, 1924, Kendall grew up in Levelland, Texas. He earned a B.S. in Chemistry from McMurry University and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Texas at Austin. He served in the United States Navy from 1943-1946 and held the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade and was a member of the U.S. Navy Reserve from 1951-1962. In his career, he worked as a physiologist and clinical chemist, as well as a chemist and quality assurance manager for the Environmental Protection Agency. He also developed and filed a number of patents.

A self-taught artist, he pursued painting, sculpture and other art mediums in his free time and showed his work as a member of the Williamson County Art Guild. He and Frances moved to Georgetown, Texas in 1991, where he was very active in the community, serving as a park ranger and on the Georgetown University Systems advisory board. Kendall, along with Frances, was a charter member of Wellspring United Methodist Church. Together, they loved bird watching, visiting the courthouses of the state of Texas and rooting for the UT football and basketball teams. Kendall will be remembered for his terrific sense of humor, curiosity, and zest for life, and most of all, his love for his family and his great devoted love for Frances for over 75 years.

Kendall’s passing is a great loss to his family, friends and the communities of Georgetown, Texas, and the Wesleyan. Kendall’s legacy of intelligence, community service and love for the arts and sciences will live on with his family and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

A memorial service for Kendall will be held on June 2, 2023, at 10 a.m. at The Wesleyan Independent Living, 210 White Heron Drive.
