Patrick Hooper

Patrick Hooper, age 77, of Georgetown, Texas, was called home on May 17, 2023 with his beloved girls by his side.

He was born to Donald and Ruth Hooper on February 24, 1946 in Athens, Ohio.  They both preceded him in death as did his son, P. J. Hooper.

He joined the Air Force in 1967 and was based in the Philippines and Thailand, flying into Vietnam to set up communications in various locations. Due to his size and ability to play, Hooper ended up on the starting lineup for the AFSC Falcons football team! In between his real job and other volunteer work he did (which he wouldn’t discuss), he enjoyed games of football throughout Eastern Asia.

After serving in the military he moved to Houston, married and had two children.

In Houston, he coached Little League Baseball.  He fought to allow a little girl to play on his team and he won – his daughter, Honei.  He also coached girl’s fast pitch softball in Georgetown.

He went to work for Schlumberger Oilfield Services, working offshore for many years.  He worked for Houston Schlumberger, testing downhole tools all over America and retired from Austin Schlumberger where he tested software and taught safety.  He was loved by everyone, especially the international employees with whom he worked in the field.

He married Marlyn Hooper on November 22, 1990.  Together they traveled all over Europe.  His favorite country – they went three times - was Ireland because of the wonderful people and the Guiness Beer!

Hooper lived for golf. He played with the Mavericks, a group of excellent players in Sun City, and enjoyed not only the sport but the banter and best friends he made.  Don’t be jealous, boys, but he’s now playing with Jesus.

He was a member of The Worship Place in Sun City where he greeted all the patrons at the front door and was responsible for gathering the food donations for The Caring Place where he also served on the Board. One of his favorite volunteer opportunities was playing Santa Clause for different organizations and churches in Georgetown.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years Marlyn Hooper, daughter Honei and husband James Cook, grandson Zachary Yoke, stepdaughter Lana and husband Tommy Thompson, grandchildren Tyler and Brooke Thompson, and stepdaughter Lori Willliamson.

We want to thank the wonderful people at Divinity Hospice and The Cottages at Chandler Creek in Round Rock who helped both Hooper and his girls through his last months.

A private service will be held in early summer.

He was my North, my South, my East and my West,

My working week and my Sunday rest,

My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;

I thought that love would last forever:  I was wrong.
