David Bert Cogdill
David Bert Cogdill of Georgetown, Texas, passed away on June 20, 2023, at the age of 85. He was born on October 20, 1937, in Colby, Kansas, and grew up in Menlo, Kansas.
He graduated from Kansas State where he met the love of his life in 1960. Bert and Susan Leslie Fowler Cogdill married on February 16, 1961, and were married for 62 years. He loved and adored her. They were always together, always looking out for and supporting each other.
He started his career training to be a pilot for the United States Navy. He later became a special agent for the Naval Investigative Service. His career took him and his family to many places including Brunswick, Georgia; Honolulu, Hawaii; Santa Ana, California; Subic Bay, Philippines; Kingsville, Texas; Norfolk, Virginia; Guantanamo Bay, Cuba; and in retirement to Kansas City, Missouri; and Georgetown, Texas.
He was actively involved in his church and Special Friends at The Worship Place in Georgetown, Texas. He was an avid reader and loved books about American history. Woodworking and building balsa model airplanes were passions of his. He was always tinkering in his garage creating useful furniture pieces, tools, plant caddies and many ingenious gadgets made of wood. He had a thousand jokes and stories and could tell them in a way to captivate your attention. He was soft spoken but steadfast in his belief of family values, love of country, helping those in need and doing his part to make the world a better place.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Susan Cogdill; his parents, Artie and Lillian Cogdill; his sisters Bonnie Pitner, June Hoxmeier and Audrey Belsher.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, David and Cathy Cogdill; daughter and son-in-law, Betsy and Marcus McMellon; grandchildren, Mireya Cogdill, Bailey McMellon Woodard and her husband Daniel Woodard, Alessandra Cogdill, Kelsey McMellon, Marta McMellon, Sonia Cogdill, David Louis Cogdill, Gregory Behan, MaryKate Behan; two great granddaughters, Anastasia and Belle Cogdill; and his sister, Lois Van Horn.
Their children would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Ascension Seton, Round Rock, Texas, for the care and compassion they showed them in their final days. They are grateful for the many prayers and kind words from friends and family.
