Kicking off the football season with a western-themed game, the Georgetown Eagles pulled out a 37-7 win over Copperas Cove last Friday.
The Eagles dominated the first half, with Andrew Petter scoring two rushing touchdowns. Petter had been out recovering from injuries, but nothing is holding this kid back this season.
Sophomore Xavier Warren made his season debut by scoring an 80-yard touchdown with three minutes and 22 seconds left in the first half. This gave the Eagles a 24-0 lead at the end of the first half.
The team continued to dominate throughout the second half, only allowing the Bulldogs to score once at the end of the fourth quarter. More touchdown contributions were made by Ivan Espinoza.
Quarterback Noah Booras completed 21 passes for 376 yards during the game.
This game put Georgetown at a 1-0 record overall. The Eagles are ranked 72nd in the state on MaxPreps and will play on the road at Vista Ridge at 7 p.m. Friday, September 1.
After that, the Eagles return home the following week for a game versus the Liberty Hill Panthers at 7 p.m. September 8.
