Edward John Walsh III, 79, of Round Rock, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on December 14, 2025.
Born in Taylor and raised in Round Rock, he attended Round Rock High School, earned his degree from The University of Texas at Austin, served in the U.S. Army (1969-1971), and received his J.D. from The University of Texas School of Law in 1974.
Elected Williamson County District Attorney in 1976, Ed took office in 1977 as the one of the state's youngest District Attorneys, and served 8 1/2 years, earning statewide recognition for excellence in prosecution and a reputation for his steady judgment, unwavering ethics and thorough preparation. He later became Board Certified in Family Law and Civil Trial Law and practiced law for 50 years, respected for his calm strength, thoughtful strategy, and mentoring many attorneys in Williamson County.
A private man with a generous heart, Ed (also known as Trey, E, or EJ) was a gifted musician who played the accordion, mandolin, and guitar, and later performed with his band, Forty Years Later. He was humble, soft-spoken, and quick with dry wit. He loved his dogs, Jack and LP, and was deeply devoted to his family, especially in his favorite role as “Poppy” to his grandchildren.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Edward John Walsh Jr. and Margaret Juanita (Stiles) Walsh. He is survived by his wife, Lori Walsh; children Kristopher Walsh (Carolyn), Jessica Enger (Øystein), and Jamie Sasser (Forrest); grandchildren Chloe, William, Colin, and Ingrid; brother Christopher Walsh and family; and extended family.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Round Rock, 1004 N. Mays St., Round Rock, Texas.
