Dorothy (Dotty) Loizeaux Timourian

Dorothy (Dotty) Loizeaux Timourian, 90, passed away peacefully on the morning of November 7th. Dotty was born on August 18, 1935, in Hollywood, California. She was the daughter of Joseph Fleming and Dorothy Isabel Fleming who had come from Minneapolis, Minnesota to California because Joe was recruited to play quarterback for the UCLA football team.

Dorothy grew up as a tomboy and she was affectionately called Dotty. She graduated in 1953 from John Marshall High School before enrolling at Los Angeles City College. She transferred to UCLA and graduated with a BA in Art in 1959. While at UCLA, Dotty met fellow student, Hector Timourian, and their friendship evolved into a beautiful love affair that lasted a lifetime. Dotty and Hector eloped and were married on May 29, 1958.

In 1960, Hector and Dotty moved to Brisbane, Queensland Australia where Hector served as postdoctoral fellow at University of Queensland, Australia. Always the supportive spouse, Dotty volunteered to help Hector with his research and she bravely handled python snakes while he drew their blood for his research. Then in 1962, Dotty and Hector returned to Pasadena, California where Dotty attended Cal State University at Los Angeles and began work on her Masters Degree in Painting. While in Pasadena, Dotty gave birth to their first child, Derek, in 1963.

Dotty and Hector moved to Livermore, California in July 1965 where they would live for the next 50 years. During this time, Dotty was able to return to her work as an artist and art educator. In 1970, Dotty had a one woman art show at the Sun Gallery in Hayward, California and her work was also exhibited at the Oakland Museum of Art. In 1975, Dotty completed her thesis work at Cal State University at San Jose and earned a Masters Degree in Art.

In 1971, Dotty and Hector adopted a second son, Tommie, who completed their family. The Timourian family spent many summer vacations camping in the great outdoors at Lake Tahoe as well as several beaches along the Southern California coast. Dotty and Hector loved to spend time traveling and bird watching together and continued those activities into their retirement years.

While managing a household with two young boys, Dotty began teaching art throughout the Livermore area to students in high schools and community colleges. Meanwhile, at the First Presbyterian Church of Livermore, Dotty served as a Sunday School teacher, Youth Advisor, and Mission Elder. Dotty also worked on the church’s Mission Committee, the Art Committee and consulted on the color and design for the Church Renovation Committee. In 1993, Dotty began entrepreneurial work as a color consultant for both individuals and businesses throughout the Livermore valley.

Dotty’s keen eye for color always had a strong preference for any and all shades of purple. Her passion for the color showed through not only in her artwork, but also in her clothing choices for herself and her husband, Hector.

Dotty and Hector lived in Livermore for 50 years before moving to Sun City in Georgetown, Texas in 2015 to be closer to their two sons (Derek and Tommie) and their families. They have six grandchildren, Jacob, Marcus (and spouse Glenna), Brianna,

Kaila (and spouse Gerardo), Nathan, and Jonathan. They also have three great-grandsons, Daniel, Gerardo and Lucas. Dotty was preceded in death by her father, Joseph, sister, Susan, mother, Dorothy, and sister-in-law, Patty.

Dotty and Hector had a wonderful life together and a love affair that included 67 years of marriage. They chose to celebrate both their 50th and 60th wedding anniversaries surrounded by their children and grandchildren on two particularly memorable family vacations to Monterey, California and Kauai, Hawaii.

A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, November 22nd at 10:30am at the San Gabriel Presbyterian Church in Georgetown, 5404 Williams Drive, Georgetown, TX 78633. A reception with light refreshments will immediately follow the service. In honor of Dotty’s love of color, guests are invited to wear purple.

The Timourian Family wishes to thank both The Delaney assisted living staff as well as the staff of Suncrest Hospice that provided kind and compassionate care during her final chapter of life.
