Harold D. Eidson Jr.

Harold D. Eidson Jr., 81, of Georgetown, Texas, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2024, leaving  behind a legacy of love, service, and intellect. Born on October 22, 1942, in Memphis, Tennessee, to  Harold D. Eidson Sr. and Elizabeth Sanders Eidson, Harold was raised in Conway, Arkansas. He excelled  at Conway High School in both academics and as a four-sport lettered athlete, graduating in 1960.

In 1964, Harold earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and physics from Arkansas State Teachers  College (now the University of Central Arkansas). That same year, on August 30, he married his high  school sweetheart, Melinda Jane Young, beginning a lifelong journey of love and partnership.

The couple moved to Austin, Texas, where Harold completed his master’s degree at the University of  Texas. It was during this time that Harold was introduced to the discipline of computer science, taking his  first computer courses, and setting the foundation for his future as a higher education faculty member  and technologist. While at UT, Harold became an avid Longhorn sports fan and rooted for ‘Horns for the  next 60 years.

In 1972, Harold and Melinda settled in Georgetown, Texas, where they raised their two sons, Marshall and  Matt. Harold’s career blossomed at Southwestern University, where he worked until his retirement in  2002. Post-retirement, he developed a passion for poetry, penning thoughtful reflections on childhood,  friendships, and family in scores of poems. In 2023, he published Echoes of Time, a cherished collection  of his poetic work.

Harold was deeply committed to his community and his church family. He coached Little League, taught  Sunday School, and was a charter member and deacon at Main Street Baptist Church in Georgetown. His  selflessness and kindness were evident in his volunteer work and the many lives he touched.

In 2024, Harold and Melinda celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary, a testament to the enduring love  they shared. Harold is survived by his beloved wife, Melinda, and their two sons, Marshall and his wife,  Tracey, of Temple, Texas; Matt and wife, Alexis, of San Antonio, Texas; and twin sister, Carolyn Eidson, of  Brenham, Texas. He also leaves behind three treasured granddaughters: Sierra Forister and husband  Kevin of Lewisville, Texas; Logan Eidson of Dallas, Texas; and Kennedi Eidson of Belton, Texas. Harold will  be missed by special nieces Elizabeth Cummins Moore and husband Wayne, of Brenham, Texas, and  family, and Kelly Cummins, of Missouri City, Texas, and sons. Harold was preceded in death by his sister,  Susan Eidson Cummins, of Nederland, Texas, and his nephew John Cummins, of Missouri City, Texas.

Harold’s life was a testament to love, community, and creativity. His memory will forever live on in the  hearts of his family and the many people whose lives he touched.

A celebration of Harold’s life will be held at the Chapel at Ramsey Funeral Home, 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 5. A reception will follow.
