Henry Barrett Chamberlin III
Henry Barrett Chamberlin III
Henry Barrett Chamberlin III passed away peacefully in Katy, Texas, on February 22, 2025.
Barry was born in San Diego, California, to parents Col. William Charles Chamberlin, USMC and Beverly Mann Chamberlin on January 8, 1941. He attended Punahou High School (Hawaii) and Quantico High School (Virginia), before graduating from the United States Naval Academy in 1962. He was commissioned in the U.S. Marine Corps and served honorably in Vietnam, where he earned the Bronze Star. Barry ended his military service as a captain, beginning civilian life as an employee of IBM in the Washington, DC, area. Barry started his corporate career as an engineer, later becoming the account executive for all branches of the U.S. military. He retired from IBM after 30 years of service.
Barry married his wife, the former Ruth Lackey of Richmond, Virginia, in 1975. They had three children, William, Kendall and Blake and two grandchildren, Barrett and Landon. They were married for 42 years before Ruth’s passing in 2017.
Barry formed his strong bond to Georgetown and Texas as a child. Barry’s grandfather, Rear Admiral William Leake Mann purchased John Berry’s old property in the 1920s. As a boy, Barry would visit his grandparents in Georgetown. He attended eighth grade there, when Barry’s father was fighting in the Korean war. After Barry’s retirement in 1997, he moved his family to Georgetown where he would raise Black Angus Cattle on the family land. In 2004, the Chamberlin’s sold most of the land to Williamson County for the purpose of building what is now Berry Springs Park and Preserve. Barry kept enough acreage to build a house for his family on the remaining land, where he and Ruth were able to spend their twilight years.
Barry will be buried next to his loving wife, Ruth, at the National Memorial Cemetery at Quantico, Virginia. His life will be celebrated at the family home on Sunday April 13 from 2-4 p.m. Please contact the family if you are interested in attending.
