Joe Frank Tucker
Joe Frank Tucker
Joe Frank Tucker arrived on June 13, 1928 in Ada, Oklahoma, an only child to Joseph Shannon Tucker and Imaleta (Potts) Tucker. He departed in Georgetown, Texas, on March 27, 2025, at the age of 96.
Joe grew up with his family in Fort Worth during the Great Depression when a hamburger cost a nickel and a Tarzan movie a dime. He graduated from Polytechnic High School in 1945. He attended TCU and played varsity tennis at the university before transferring to the University of Texas at Austin where he earned bachelor and master degrees in journalism. After graduating from UT, he worked as a staff writer for the Wichita Falls (Texas) Record News and later served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
After discharge from the military in 1954 he joined Humble Oil & Refining Company (now ExxonMobil) in Houston as a writer and editor. He later became involved in media and public affairs issues and projects and was public relations manager of Exxon Chemical Americas before retiring.
In 1957 he married his beloved Doris Williams of Paint Rock, Texas, also a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin. They were blessed with two children and six grandchildren and spent most of their 58 year married life in Houston. They moved from Houston to Georgetown, Texas, in 2006. Doris passed into God’s loving arms in 2015.
Tucker was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and grandson, David Tucker. He is survived by a son, Shannon Tucker and his wife, Patsy, of Pensacola, Florida; a daughter, Kristen Pierce and her husband Mick, of Georgetown, Texas; and five grandchildren; Laura Tucker of Charlottesville, Virginia, Ellen Clay and her husband Ray, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Sallie Tucker of Austin, Texas, Lewis Pierce of Austin, Texas, and Sydney Pierce of Georgetown.
Tucker was a member of the Georgetown First United Methodist Church, where private services were held. He requested that any memorials be directed to the Georgetown First United Methodist Church.
The family wishes to gratefully acknowledge the men and women who served as such wonderful caregivers and nurses to our father over the last few months: Romel, Dana, Gary, Kris, and Corey, along with others. We thank God for you.
