Walter L. Bradley December 27, 1943 – July 2, 2025 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Walter L. Bradley, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, who went to be with the Lord peacefully on July 2, 2025, at the age of 81.

Life and Legacy: Walter was an internationally recognized Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science at three universities. He had a profound impact on the lives of many—on campus, in the community, and in broader society. Alongside a distinguished professional and service career, Walter prioritized people and was known for his kindness and genuine interest in others which led to many friendships and mentoring relationships across the United States and around the world.

Walter was born on December 27, 1943, in Dallas and grew up in Corpus Christi, Texas. He attended the University of Texas, where he earned both a BS and a PhD in Engineering and Materials Science in 1968. While in Austin, he met his wife and lifelong companion, Carol Ann James, to whom he was married for 60 years.

Walter served as a Mechanical Engineering faculty member for over 45 years at the Colorado School of Mines, Texas A&M University, and Baylor University, achieving tenure by the age of 27. He was an internationally recognized professor who pioneered work in metallurgy, composite materials, polymers, and natural composites. Walter advised 41 MS theses and 17 PhD dissertations, with his former students making significant contributions at universities and industries across the country.

At the same time, Walter was a leading voice on the connections between faith and science. He spoke at hundreds of universities across the United States and co-authored the seminal book The Mystery of Life’s Origin, which remains in publication today. He was also one of the founding professors of Campus Crusade for Christ’s (CRU) Faculty Commons ministry, pioneering ways for faculty to effectively share their Christian faith on college campuses.

After retiring from Baylor, Walter and Ann relocated to Georgetown, Texas, where they continued to speak at conferences and teach in local churches. Walter and Ann were not ones to sit still for long; they traveled extensively and regularly entertained visitors at their home.

Family was at the heart of Walter’s life. He took immense pride in his family. Walter dedicated countless hours to supporting their pursuits and celebrating their milestones. Most importantly, he sought to nurture and encourage the faith of his children and grandchildren, guiding them toward a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ through his example, wisdom, and steadfast love. His legacy of faith continues to inspire his family to walk closely with the Lord.

He is survived by his loving wife, Ann; his children, Sharon (David) Perry and Steven (Christy) Bradley; his cherished grandchildren, Rachel (Tylor) Szalony, Daniel (Tessa) Perry, Beth (Austin) Turner, Hudson (Catherine) Bradley, Caroline Bradley, Preston Bradley, and Catherine Bradley; his great-grandchildren, Knox and Palmer Perry and his sister, Linda Gamble. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth; his mother, Virginia; and his brother, Carl.

The memorial service will take place on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 2pm in the chapel at Highland Baptist Church, 2924 Trice Ave, Waco, Texas 76707.
