Walter (Walt) Ralph Doering

Walter (Walt) Ralph Doering, 92, died in Georgetown, Texas, February 19, 2026. He was born to Herman W. G. Doering and Ethel K. Doering in St. Louis, Missouri, December 21, 1933. He married Melba Jean Bokelman in 1952, his lifelong partner and best friend. They had three children and six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. In addition to the blessings of family, Walt's life was made richer by a variety of work experiences. He went to seminary at LSTC and served two congregations for the Lutheran Church in America. Later he became a counselor, administrator, and teacher for Indiana University-Kokomo. Finally, Walt became a Corporate Human Resource executive in four hospitals. In all these roles, Walt sought to change the policies and structures which burdened workers and prevented them from achieving their full potential.

After moving to Georgetown, Walt, with Melba, visited and supported the dreams of asylum seekers at T. Don Hutto Detention Center.  For Bridges to Growth, he taught ESL classes, and for the Neighborhood Conference Committee of Wilco, he helped students avoid entering the prison pipeline.  Much of his time was spent working with others to install five new multi-family affordable housing communities in Georgetown.

Walt was a continuous learner and avid reader who desired to make life better for all. He loved playing a variety of major/minor sports and enjoyed music. And his contagious laugh was enjoyed by all.

Melba, his spouse, Walt’s parents and two brothers, Bob, and Herm, and his brother-in-law, Dan Steinmeyer, preceded him in death. He is survived by his three children Philip Doering (Kate), Gwen Doering, and Roxane Dahl (Les), his grandchildren Suzanne Doering, Andrew Doering (Jamie), Nathan Dahl, Bethany Rooke (Josh), Rebekah Stacy (Kevin), and Michael Dahl, as well as great-grandchildren Hannah, Ben, and Caleb Stacy, and Nolan and Adelaide Rooke and his sister, Vi Steinmeyer.

A Memorial service will be held at Ramsey’s Funeral Home on April 25, 2026 at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers please give to a charity of your choice.
