‘No Kings’ protests draws supporters, opposition, costumes

Demonstrators gathered in downtown Taylor on Saturday afternoon, October 18, for a "No Kings" protest. The crowd was approximately 300, mostly gathered at Second and Main Streets. Other nearby protests were held in Round Rock, Pflugerville and downtown Austin at the same time.- Photos by Andy Sharp

Florence community shows up for National Night Out

For National Night Out, the Florence Police Department hosted a carnival-style community event Tuesday, Oct. 7, featuring more than 10 public service agencies, including the Texas Department of Transportation, Texas Game Wardens, the National Guard and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The legendary Coupland Dancehall — which in August announced it would close after more than 120 years — will be taken over by Lightstream Presents, the same live entertainment group that owns the Haute Spot in Cedar Park.

Palace Theatre performance reaches new heights

In the Heights opened at the Palace Theatre on October 3 to the buzz of a highly enthusiastic full house.The popular musical opened on Broadway in 2008. It was nominated for 13 Tony Awards and won four, including Best Musical. A film adaptation was released in June 2021.
