County’s Wilco Way annex closed for one day

The Williamson County Georgetown Annex, located at 100 Wilco Way in Georgetown, will be closed to the public  Wednesday, September 27, for a county employee event. Offices will resume normal hours Thursday, Sept. 28.

Tornadoes terrify Wilco, and rightly so

A storm makes its way through Central Texas. As it approaches, the clouded sky takes on a green hue and everything becomes eerily still. These are telltale signs that show a tornado is fast approaching.

Williamson County indigent health care program at highest enrollment

With Williamson County ranked the third healthiest county in Texas, 12 percent of people under 65 don’t have health insurance, still better than most of the state. But with unforeseen circumstances leading to a lack of money to pay for health care and the current poverty rate at 6.

Assault leads to 10 years in prison

A Williamson County jury on September 13 found Kamar Knipe-Place, 22, guilty of burglary and assault of his former girlfriend at her Round Rock home. The jury sentenced Knipe-Place to seven years in prison for the burglary and 10 years for the assault.

Williamson County prepares to celebrate National Night Out

Cities across the county are preparing for National Night Out on Tuesday, October 3. This year nearly 500 communities in Texas are expected to participate.

Williamson County commissioners approve September as Suicide Prevention Awareness Month

The Williamson County Commissioners Court unanimously voted to designate September as Suicide Prevention Awareness Month during its September 12 meeting at the county courthouse. According to a proclamation read to the court, 72 county residents died by suicide in 2021.

Floods have written Williamson County’s history

September 1921 takes its place in Williamson County’s historic archives.  Fueled by a hurricane that formed in the Gulf of Mexico, a wicked storm pummeled Williamson County September 8-10, lasting 35 hours.

Cedar Park man sentenced to 45 years for murder

A Williamson County jury has found 33-year-old Hector De Jesus Villatoro-Guevara guilty of murder in the 2021 shooting death of  Cameron Wilcox, 30. The crime occurred in front of Wilcox’s home in Cedar Park. Jurors issued their guilty verdict September 13.

The Williamson Museum honors Sun newspaper family

The 11th annual Cattleman’s Ball swings into life at the Sun City Ballroom September 23 at 5:30 p.m. This year’s honorees are publishers Clark Thurmond and Linda Scarbrough, who own The Williamson County Sun in Georgetown — an independent newspaper owned and operated by their family since 1948.
