September 12, 1976: GETTING IN ON THE ACTION - Georgetown folks get in on the action at the Up with People concert Tuesday night as they bunny hop around Southwestern University's new Sid W. Richardson Physical Education Center. The program, designed to establish a creative framework for communication and interaction between people of varied backgrounds and across all ages, seems to be working as Georgetownites bunnyhop, swaying arm-in-arm to the music, singing and clapping.

September 9, 1976: Linda Rumbaugh of Salado is sworn in as Georgetown's first female police officer by Asst. City Manager W. L. Walden. A dispatcher for the Georgetown police department the past four years, 24-year-old Rumbaugh got her badge in a City Hall ceremony last week and began patrol duties immediately. She completed officer training with three other women last month at Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos.

A dispatcher for the Georgetown police department the past four years, 24-year-old Rumbaugh got her badge in a City Hall ceremony last week and began patrol duties immediately. She completed officer training with three other women last month at Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos.

The photo shows the corner of Main Street at Ninth Street (before the Heritage Church was moved there), and also includes the Compton Motors car lot (which is now the “Red Poppy” parking lot).

Private First Class Joe Klepac, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Klepac of Jarrell, Texas, was awarded the Purple Heart Medal for wounds received in action in Korea while serving with the Fifth Cavalry Regiment of the First Cavalry Division. The presentation was made by Colonel Jonathan M. Rigon, Commanding Officer of the 172d Station Hospital where Klepac is recuperating. Prior to his entry in the armed forces in July, 1950, Klepac worked with his father in “Klepac & Son, Mechanics.”
