His truth is marching on. Lee Greenwood wrote it in “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” and Martin Luther King Jr.’s truth marched on in Georgetown on a sunny January 19, carrying on his dream for peace, justice and equality for all. What have we done with his dream?

Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day with Georgetown events

The third Monday of January is always reserved for Martin Luther King Jr. Day to remember the civil rights leader and his contributions to the people of the United States and beyond. In Georgetown, there are three events that take place annually to honor the legacy of Dr. King.

Cold Texas weather could not deter marchers at the Martin Luther King Jr. Day parade that went from the county courthouse to Macedonia Baptist Church on January 20.

Keynote discusses ideologies of MLK, Malcolm X as part of Southwestern University Dream Week

Contrasting ideologies held by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X, as well as their shared commitment to bringing about civil rights for the Black community, were the topics of discussion during a keynote address at Southwestern University.

Georgetown celebrates MLK Jr. Day with parade, program

Georgetown resident Sharon Maynard was one of dozens of people who gathered outside the Williamson County Courthouse for the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day parade Monday, January 16. “I’ve never marched before, but I wanted to come out to try to make a difference,” Ms. Maynard said.

Leander to celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. day with second annual event

Honor the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during Leander’s second annual MLK Day March and Ceremony. The event, which is themed “Unity Through Diversity,” takes place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on January 16, in Old Town Leander.
