A slice of history: TRG Association reflects on legacy on Juneteenth

The former TRG Association formed to uplift, inform and serve Georgetown’s three historically Black neighborhoods — known today as Track, Ridge and Grasshopper — in what was Council District 2.

Shotgun house tours, music and protest set for Juneteenth

The annual Juneteenth celebration at the Georgetown Community Center was held last Saturday, but the community will come together again Friday, June 19, to mark the day in 1865 when federal troops arrived in Galveston to announce all enslaved people were freed.

Georgetown Cultural Citizen Memorial Association member Paulette Taylor was Mistress of Ceremony for the unveiling of an historical marker (seen at right)  at Citizens Memorial Garden Cemetery during a ceremony held  on Juneteenth, Thursday, June 19, 2025. Located at 251 Memorial Drive, the cemetery opened in 1906, providing final resting places for African-American and Hispanic residents.

Juneteenth celebrations happening this weekend

Georgetown’s 73rd annual Juneteenth celebration will include a photo exhibit, live entertainment, a parade and a historical marker unveiling over the next week. Some events are a partnership between the city and the Georgetown Cultural Citizen Memorial Association.

Georgetown association maintains Black history, brings people together

In the 1970s, a group of volunteers came together as the The Georgetown Cultural Citizen Memorial Association to take care of the Afro-American Citizens Memorial Garden Cemetery on Memorial Drive.

Third suspect detained after Juneteenth shooting

A third suspect is in custody following the deadly shooting that occurred on Saturday, June 15, at Old Settlers Park during Round Rock's annual Juneteenth celebration, according to Police media channels.At approximately 11 p.m.

Round Rock PD arrests shooting suspect, investigation still ongoing

Ricky Tyrone Thompson III, 17, of Manor, was arrested in Pflugerville on June 20 by the Lonestar Fugitive Task Force in connection with a shooting that took place at Round Rock’s Juneteenth celebration in Old Settlers Park this past weekend. Two were killed and 14 more injured at the event.
