Willis Leo Wood

Willis Leo Wood, 82, of Georgetown, passed away on October 2, 2022.

Leo was born on August 3, 1940, in San Saba to Ernest Lee and Allie Garrett Chaudoin Wood.

Leo was the second of eight children and a graduate of the San Saba High School class of 1957. One of Leo’s first jobs was working at Eman Perry’s gas station in San Saba. After graduating, he met and married the love of his life, Vivian Louise Homesley. Leo and Vivian married on August 12, 1961, and remained together until her passing on April 14, 2021.

Leo and Vivian moved from San Saba to Rosebud, where he started his career as a public servant when he accepted a position with the city of Rosebud. In 1969, Leo and Vivian moved with sons, Eric, Owen, and John to Georgetown where Leo served as city manager before being elected mayor in 1992. As city manager and as mayor, Leo played an integral role in the growth and development of Georgetown. Leo used his vision and entrepreneurial spirit to bring businesses to Georgetown and build the infrastructure that its residents still enjoy. His efforts led Georgetown to grow from a city of 5,500 people to the thriving community that it has become today.

Leo played many roles but none more important than being a friend to anyone that needed one. In his later years, after retiring from politics, Leo continued to be seen around town offering everyone a warm smile and a firm handshake. His welcoming personality and love for all was always evident. Leo and Vivian were recognized as Mr. and Mrs. Georgetown in 2021 for their many contributions to the community and Williamson County. Leo’s accolades are too many to list here, yet he remained humble and generous.

Leo was predeceased by his wife, Vivian; his parents; sisters, Helen and Dellia; fatherin- law, Earl Homesley; mother-in-law, Imogene Bode Homesley; brothers-in-law, Robert “Buzz” Homesley and Wayne Homesley (surviving wife, Sheila Homesley). He is survived by sons, Eric Wood (Tonia), Owen Wood (Nancy Gilliam), and John Wood (Shannon); grandchildren, Madeline Wood and Caleb Wood; great-granddaughter, Evelyn Wood; sisters, Clara Crain (Lusty) and Angelene Vaughn (Billy); brother, Howard Wood; sister, Vivian Wood; sister-in-law, Debi Ramirez (Willie); brother-inlaw, Tom Ed Homesley; many nieces and nephews; and a host of long-time friends.
