William Edward “Bill” Jones

William Edward “Bill” Jones, of Georgetown, went to be with the Lord on Monday March 27, 2023.

Bill was born on March 16, 1931, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to the late John Britton Jones and Velma Rose Jones. As a young child, the family moved to San Antonio. After attending St. Peter Claver High School in San Antonio, Bill enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in one of the first integrated units. He was assigned to the 24th regiment of the 25th Division in Japan and went on to fight in the Korean War where he was wounded in battle and awarded a Purple Heart. During his time in the Army, he was stationed in Aurora, Colorado; Vitry, France; Yuma, Arizona; Korea (for a second time), Ft. Benning, Georgia; Ft. Greely, Alaska; and El Paso, Texas, where he retired after 22 years of service.

Bill loved golf, good food, and jazz! He was a long-time member of Faith Lutheran Church in Georgetown where he served as greeter, Elder, and Stephen Minister.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie Jones, and three siblings. He is survived by his daughters, Cheryl Gabriel (Jimmie), Angela Alvarez (Manny); grandchildren, Jeremy Gabriel (Giavanna and Savanna Gabriel), Zachary and Gabriella Alvarez, niece, Nikki Jones; special friends Vestell Jones and Ivan Gordon, and many cousins and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at Faith Lutheran Church, Georgetown, Texas.

A Graveside Service with Military Honors rendered by the United States Army will be held at 9 a.m. on Monday, April 17, 2023, at Central Texas State Veteran Cemetery, Killeen, Texas.
