Billy Howard Headrick left his earthly home for his forever home in Heaven on June 6, 2023, at the age of 87. Billy was born in Georgetown, Texas, on May 18, 1936, to Roy L. and Edna Headrick. He attended school in Georgetown, graduating from Georgetown High School in 1955. He played football (guard) for the Georgetown Eagles and was team captain his senior year. Following graduation, he attended Blinn College on a football scholarship.
During high school, Billy joined the U.S. Navy reserve and received an honorable discharge on April 9, 1957. After a football injury at Blinn, he joined the U.S. Army, receiving an honorable discharge in 1962. While serving in the army, he attended survey school. After his discharge, he went to work for the Texas Highway Department in Pharr, Texas on a survey crew. He transferred to the Texas Highway Department in Austin, Texas in 1961. He worked in designing and installing the highway signs on I-35. In 1965, he joined Alcoa as a draftsman and was promoted to Mechanical Designer. He completed Mechanical Engineering Certification through Alcoa in 1984 and worked until retirement in 1995.
Billy was baptized at an early age and joined St. John’s Methodist Church in Rockdale in 1965, serving on the Board and numerous committees.
Billy was an active member of the Lions Club, serving as a Charter Director of the Lions Club Eye Bank. He was Deputy District Governor and received awards for his service. He also founded the Rockdale Evening Lions Club, serving as president. His most prestigious honor was serving as District Lions Historian. During his tenure as Historian, he entered a wooden scrapbook in international competition and received first place. He designed many of the Lions Club pins and was so proud of them.
Billy was a guy of many talents. He loved making wooden items for the St. John’s Lord’s Acre and many other fundraisers, from furniture to small wooden items, designing and building anything. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved being on his place in the country. He loved to fish, hunt, and play golf. He coached Little League baseball when his son was young. All who knew him know how much he loved to tell stories with his keen sense of humor. He loved playing Farkle with his family and friends. He is survived by a family he dearly loved and who loved him dearly. Billy married Betty Lu Sutton in Taylor, Texas, on March 28, 1959. He is survived by his wife, Betty, daughter Tammy Sefcik and husband Wallace of Walburg, son Bill Jr. and wife Sylvia of Manor, brother Roy L Headrick and wife Janie of Georgetown, brother Jackie Headrick and wife Johnnie of Buchanan Dam, grandchildren Tiana Sefcik of Denver, Colorado, grandson Wyatt Sefcik and wife Jenny of Walburg, , grandson Bill Headrick III of Austin, and granddaughter Melissa Headrick of Manor. Other survivors include sister-in-law Janie Czimskey and husband Kenneth of Taylor, brother-in-law Charles Sutton and wife Delia of Taylor, and numerous nephews and nieces.
Billy was preceded in death by his father, Roy L., mother, Edna, sister Susie Sellstrom and husband Leonard, father- and mother-in-law Emil and Pauline Sutton, and brother-in-law Jack (Sonny) Sutton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. John’s Methodist Church in Rockdale, Texas, or to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children (lovetotherescue.org).
Visitation 10 a.m. Saturday, June 17, 2023, at St. John’s United Methodist Church, 1700 Hillcrest Drive, Rockdale, Texas 76567 with Funeral Service to begin at 11 a.m.
