John George Snowden
John George Snowden passed away on April 4, 2025, in Georgetown, lovingly surrounded by his family.
He was born in Georgetown on June 25, 1935 to Ruby and John Snowden. He grew up on a family farm with siblings Norma, Ben, Bill and Carra. He graduated from GHS in ‘52, then joined the Marines. He served in the Korean War with the 1st Marine Division.
After the Marines, he completed his degree at the University of North Texas. John worked for Dallas ISD as a teacher, but quickly found his calling in the camping world. He worked for several U.S. YMCA camps in executive roles, served on boards, and won multiple awards.
John returned to Georgetown to enjoy retired life and time with his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 50 years, Pamela; children: Jennifer, Melissa, Rebecca, John D (Heather), and Ryan (Sara); sister Carra; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Ben and Bill; and sister Norma.
