Stennett Posey

Stennett Posey

Stennett Posey passed away on 7-20-25 after a valiant nine year journey with cancer and its lasting effects.  He was born 9-11-1945 in Laurel, Mississippi to doting parents, A.D. and Doris Posey. He graduated from Watkins High School where he made lifelong friends. He played football at Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi where he earned a bachelor’s degree. In the midst of college, he joined the U.S. Marine Corp Reserves.

After college he worked as a counselor at the Missouri Training School for Boys. Several years earlier, he met a teenage girl in Edna, Texas. She would become his bride. They began their married life in the staff cottage on the grounds of the state school.

Two years later Stennett went to work for the Board of Pardons and Parole in Houston where they would also welcome their daughter, Kristen. The family moved to Austin as Stennett progressed within the agency. Their son, Shea, was born as they made their final move to Georgetown.

Stennett held various roles within the parole division, including an appointment to the Texas Board of Pardons and Parole by Governor Clements. He retired from the Texas Department of Corrections with 29 years of state service.

Stennett enjoyed coaching his children in youth sports and following them in their extracurricular activities.  He also enjoyed old time rock and roll and country music. In the early ‘80’s he was known as “Dowdy” from his part-time job of deejaying on the KGTN radio station.

In retirement Stennett enjoyed traveling, welcoming two grandsons, and staying in touch with friends.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine, daughter Kristen Posey (Catricia Mills), his son Shea Posey (JoLynn), grandsons, Jackson and Camden Posey, and extended family from Edna, Texas, Laurel, Mississippi, and Abilene, Texas.  He valued long time relationships with school chums and work friends.

Stennett was predeceased by his parents, A.D. and Doris Posey, brother, Stan Posey and sister-in-law, BJ Posey.

Services will be held at Christ Lutheran Church in Georgetown, Texas at 11AM on Saturday, August 16, 2025.
