Kay Dismukes Merritt

Kay Dismukes Merritt entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior on February 12, 2026. She was born April 14, 1936, in Uvalde, Texas. Grounded in family, shaped by perseverance, and defined by a quiet, unshakeable strength — she moved through life with a joyful spirit and a steadfast trust in God, her faith in Christ a constant, guiding light.

In October 1957, Kay met the love of her life, Wayne Merritt. They were married May 31, 1958, in Uvalde, Texas. They lived in San Marcos and Midland, Texas  before settling in Austin and then Georgetown in 1984. Kay worked in the front office at Tippit Middle School and served on multiple committees, most recently leading the Prayer Shawl Ministry at First Methodist Georgetown, contributed as a board member of The Caring Place and supported Project Share in addition to many others.

Kay reflected the kindness of Christ in every interaction, making people feel seen, valued, and loved. And you would always be prayed for… and hugged. Caring was her calling. She believed in showing up, loving well, and strengthening her community through quiet faithfulness. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Methodist Church Georgetown, The Caring Place, or Faith in Action Georgetown.

She is survived by daughters Michele Flagg (Marc), Suzanne Joseph (Anthony), and Marcie; and her grandchildren Elizabeth, Mitchell, Jessica, Alexa, Mackenna, and Anthony Jr., who were among her greatest joys.

A service will be held April 18, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at First Methodist Church Georgetown.
