David Wesley McClary

David Wesley McClary was born June 16, 1948 in Durant, Oklahoma, and was raised in Texarkana, Texas. He lived most of his adult life in Brownsboro and Georgetown, Texas. He passed away on May 8, 2026 surrounded by loved ones.

David was a man who was quiet in a crowd, but always warm in his interactions with people—one person at a time. People said of him that he was able to convey acceptance and openness to them with just the gaze of his remarkable blue eyes and a handshake. He enjoyed spending time with his friends at church and the “lunch bunch.”

David took pride in his career as a custom cabinet-builder and doormaker, and liked fishing, hunting, and being out on the water on his boat. He also liked vacationing with his family to places like Colorado, Utah, Arkansas, Tennessee, and the Texas coast.

To his family, he was the faithful one who supported them with the hard work of his hands and by always making time for them. He was a good listener and could always keep your secrets. He encouraged each of his children and his family in practical ways that would make their goals more achievable. It was important to him to know each member of his family was thriving; that is what drove him to act. If something was broken, David always found a way to make it functional again. This included vehicles, appliances, and hearts that were broken. When he could not make the pain go away, he stayed and offered the comfort of a hug and whispered reminders of his constant love. David loved to laugh with others and would occasionally pull pranks on his family and friends that he knew appreciated his sense of humor.

Our world will be forever marked by who David inspired us to be.

David is preceded in death by his mother, Norma Jean McClary Watkins; his father, Carson Wesley McClary; his infant daughter, Tammy McClary; his brother, Richard McClary; his sister, Sharon Kay Tanner; and his brother-in-law, Bobby Henry. He is also preceded in death by his beloved father-in-law Carl Whitworth and mother-in-law Peggy Whitworth.

David is survived by his wife, Beth McClary; his daughters, Tina, Shannon, and Jessica; and his son, Wesley. He is also survived by two brothers, Carson Edward and Donald; three sisters Wanda, Carol, and Barbara Ann; his brother-in-law Carl (Marta) Whitworth Jr.; his grandchildren Raymond, Victoria, and Brandon; and five great-grandchildren.

Through David’s long journey with Parkinson’s and dementia, he learned of the goodness and sufficiency of God and patiently waited for the day when he would be free of his illnesses and in the presence of God. We rejoice with him for that victory, even as we grieve the place that is now vacant in our daily lives, and look forward to the day when we will see him again.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Delores from Synergy Home Care, and to David's Journey of Life Hospice Team, especially Craig, Tiffany, Kaley, and LaToya. You helped make our family’s journey less frightening and easier to bear. We have seen the goodness of God through the work of your hands and hearts.

Services will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2026 at 1 p.m. at Crestview Baptist Church, 2300 Williams Dr. in Georgetown.
